Leadership

Board of Directors

MTN acknowledges that an effective board must have the expertise and competence to promptly and appropriately address current and emerging issues to ensure the delivery of our strategy. A clear division of responsibilities at the head of the company ensures a balance of authority. No individual has unfettered powers of decision-making, and no block of individuals can dominate the Board. Our Board Charter stipulates that operation of the Board and the executive responsibility for running the business are separate tasks.

Our focus areas

Supporting National Development Goals

MTN Rwanda actively supports government-led programs and national priorities. Our contributions range from participating in Community Work (Umuganda) to supporting Genocide Commemoration activities and aligning with the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1 and NST2). Whether it’s responding to emergency needs or taking part in long-term development efforts, we stand in solidarity with national goals that drive Rwanda forward. Year-round participation and support of government-led initiatives that strengthen community cohesion and national resilience.

MTN supports the government initiative of preventing malnutrition in children under 5 years of age.
Every quarter, MTNers across our footprint participate in the monthly community also known as ‘Umuganda’
MTN participates in the celebration of National Harvest Day, also known as “Umuganura,” alongside the residents of Rutsiro district. As a part of our CSI programs, this year MTN extended its support by donating 3 million Frw to assist 60 families with domestic livestock.

Our focus areas

Uplifting Women and Youth

We believe inclusive economic growth starts with empowering those often left behind. Through our flagship program, Connect Women in Business, launched in 2019, MTN has supported over 10,000 women from vulnerable backgrounds including mothers, widows, refugees, and former street vendors. This initiative provides training in financial literacy, digital tools, and business management, enabling women to grow sustainable businesses in sectors such as agriculture, crafts, and digital. Thousands of women-led saving groups have gained the tools, confidence, and capital to become financially independent and contribute to their communities.

“Level Up your Biz” is a youth initiative meant to empower and provide youth-led businesses with the right entrepreneurial skills and knowledge and as a result would strengthen their innovative capabilities amidst an evolving digital world.
In order to address some of the economic & emotional challenges faced by teen mothers, MTN in partnership with Empower Rwanda (A women-led local NGO) supported 110 vulnerable teen mothers in Rwamagana and Gatsibo districts. The support worth 10 million FRW went through individual and group items such as sewing machines, and accessories livestock, and sanitary items among others.

Our focus areas

Bringing Healthcare Closer to Communities

MTN Rwanda supports the health sector through targeted interventions that respond to community needs. A key milestone in this area is the establishment of a fully equipped maternity ward in Bweyeye, Western Province.
This initiative was implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health, aiming to reduce maternal and infant mortality by ensuring women in remote areas have access to quality maternity care.

Over 4,000 women served since launch, with a significant reduction in risky long-distance travel for childbirth.

MTN Rwanda contributed 100 million Rwandan Francs to the Ministry of Health for the construction of a maternity block that will accommodate a new Caesarean (C-section) operation facility and upgrade the Bweyeye health centre located in Bweyeye sector, Rusizi district in Western Province. This support is part of the Company’s Corporate Social Investments, demonstrating MTN Rwanda’s commitment to supporting Government priorities in health. The new C-section block will greatly enhance maternal and child health outcomes, ensuring safer deliveries and a decrease in possible complications for expectant mothers in the Bweyeye community and Western Province at large.
MTN donated learning materials to Autisme Rwanda to support the centre to train children suffering from Autism.
589 Rwandese benefited from free cleft lip/palate surgery, 174 Health care professionals and 26 medical staff were medically trained.

Vulnerable families benefit from the Community Based Health Insurance (CBHI) provided by MTN.
