MTN Rwanda has launched a campaign today to promote wearing masks to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. The campaign titled W.I.S.E, an acronym for Wear it Safely Everywhere (you go) is intended to remind Rwandans of the importance of mask wearing but with emphasis on wearing it right. Speaking at the launch of the campaign, Chief Finance Officer, Mark Nkurunziza said, “MTN would like to fully immerse itself by partnering with key stakeholders to re-emphasize and encourage citizens to safeguard themselves from potential exposure to COVID-19, specifically focusing on mask wearing. Through shared responsibility, we can get this
pandemic under control.”
As part of a partnership with the Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Board and Rwanda National Police, this campaign is expected to complement the Government’s efforts on their ongoing Covid-19 campaigns such as #KambareNeza, #ShishozaNeza and #RwanyaCovid19.
“MTN remains committed to the health and safety of our communities as the main priority during these times, so we will be donating 10,000 masks to help fight the virus,” added Nkurunziza. The W.I.S.E. ad campaign will appear online, on social media with the hashtag #BeWISE
and on outdoor sites countrywide. MTN Rwanda has made various contributions to support the people of Rwanda during this
pandemic, most recently donating to the Economic Recovery Fund managed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, particularly toward SMEs to help keep them afloat during this time. Nkurunziza concluded by saying that the rate at which the virus spreads or how soon we can reopen all businesses will depend on the choices we make to stay safe.“Being W.I.S.E by wearing a mask is the easiest way to protect yourself and others while reducing the spread of COVID-19.”
