For Conducting The Promotional Activity Izihirwe Na MTN Rwandacell Plc
1.1 Izihirwe na MTN Promotion is organized by MTN Rwandacell Plc (hereinafter referred to as
“MTN” and gives MTN Prepaid eligible customers a chance to win prizes via draw. Only
customers who declare interest for the promotion by opting-in via one of the available channels
are eligible for the draw.
1.2 Customers will collect points based on the actions mentioned in clause 5 below.
2.1 Izihirwe na MTN promotion commences on 27/01/2023 and the last day of activities that shall
reward points to participants is 28/03/2023. The Grand Prizes winners will be announced on
31/03/2023.
2.2 MTN reserves the rights to change these dates at its own discretion.
3.1 Izihirwe na MTN will be valid in the territory known and recognized as the Republic of Rwanda (hereafter
referred to as “Rwanda”).
4.1 The promotion is open to all MTN prepaid and active customers within Rwanda. Customers
must be 16 years of age or older.
4.2 The following are the criteria for eligibility to participate:
4.2.1 Natural persons aged 16 years and above who are MTN’s prepaid customers and are active on MTN network during the Promotion period as described in section 2 of these terms and conditions.
A customer is uniquely identified by an MSISDN (Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number) registered under their national ID or Passport.
4.2.2 A customer is defined as active on MTN network if the MSISDN attached to any of their identification documents (as described under clause 4.2.2) is registered in MTN HLR (Home locator Register) and VLR (Visitor Locator Register) within the promotion duration.
4.2.3 The following are excluded in the definition specified in point 4.2.1:
4.2.3.1 Employees of MTN or any affiliated company, distributers of MTN products and services and their employees, MTN registered sales agent, and any company directly collaborating with MTN for the purposes of executing the promotion, their spouses, direct members of their families or households, relatives of direct kinship or any other person in a position to benefit illegitimately from unpublished or privileged information connected to promotion, and all persons in a position to interfere with the operation of the promotion -legitimately or illegitimately.
4.2.3.2 MSISDNs that are used in devices that are not directly under the use or control of a natural person. For the sake of clarity, sim cards used in IOTs controlled devices, M2M devices, etc. shall not be eligible for the Izihirwe promotion.
4.2.3.3 In case the customer is under 18 years old and wins a prize and is requested to appear for a prize presentation ceremony, the winner’s guardian will represent the person during the prize presentation ceremony. The guardian shall be having his/her ID as well as a certification proving that he/she is the guardian of the winner of the prize.
5.1 To participate, an MTN Prepaid customer must explicitly opt-in into the promotion through one of the below available channels:

5.1.2 USSD: By dialing the promo’s direct USSD Code *456*25#.
5.1.3 After opting-in the customer is called a Participant.
5.1.4 Opt-in is free of charge. For the sake of clarity, customers will not be required to pay any fees to join the promo via any of the channels specified above.
5.1.5 Upon successful opt-in, customer will start accumulating points for any below actions:
5.1.5.1. Recharge with any amount equal or higher than RWF 50.
5.1.5.2. Purchase any paid bundle (voice or data) equal to or higher than RWF 50.
5.1.5.3. For the sake of clarity, there are no extra fees or charges required for the above actions (recharge or bundle purchases). Customers who are participating in the promo will be charged the same amount as non-participating customers for all airtime and bundles purchases.
5.2. Participants may opt-out from the promotion at any time by:

5.3. Points are earned on each eligible activity performed by a customer (either Participant or Non-Participant).
5.4. Points keep accumulating throughout the promotion period.
5.5. The gathered points correspond to chances for the draws and are activated only if an MTN customer declares interest for the campaign by opting-in.
5.6. Customers who opt-in into this promo via any of the channel hereby warrants and represents that he/she:
5.6.1. Joins the promo voluntarily.
5.6.2. Has perused and has a clear understanding of the terms and conditions of the Izihirwe Promotion and agrees that his/her participation in the Promotion is conditional on full adherence to the terms and conditions herein.
5.6.3. Consents to receiving promotional messages related to the Promotion.
5.6.4. Is fully aware and accepts that using their MTN Sim cards for airtime recharges, voice bundles purchases, and/or data bundles purchases are the only activities that shall count for the purpose of accumulating points during this Promotion where same have been duly charged in accordance with this terms and conditions. MTN may decide, at its own discretion to add other specific activities that may count for the purpose of accumulating points during the promotion.
5.6.5. Is fully aware and accept that joining the Promotion is free.
5.6.6. Agrees that where there is any dispute as to the usage value by the Participant, the MTN’s records shall be the sole basis for resolving same.
5.6.7. MTN Rwanda reserves the right to verify the eligibility of Participants which will also include confirmation of details of Participants against the Participant’s details in MTN’s Subscriber SIM Registration records. Participants hereby agree that personal data supplied when participating in the Rewards may be used by the MTN to monitor participation in the Rewards, to provide services to Participants from time to time and to evaluate service improvements.
5.6.8. MTN reserves the right to disqualify any entrant if it has reasonable grounds to believe the entrant has breached any provision of the Terms and Conditions.
6.1. Points will be awarded to customers who purchase Airtime via any of the following channels:
6.1.1. MTN agents.
6.1.2. Self-service (MoMo or other digital channels excluding airtime borrowed via MTN Ihereze loans services).
6.2. Points will be awarded to those customers who purchase/subscribe to voice and data bundles, e.g., Irekure, Yolo, Prestige etc.
6.3. Customers who perform Me2U and/or extra-time (borrowed airtime via Ihereze) transactions will not be awarded with points for Izihirwe na MTN promotion.
6.4. The following are the points calculation methods:
6.4.1. Users will be rewarded for every recharge amount, or every paid bundle activation amount equal to or greater than RWF 50.
6.4.2. For Each RWF 100 spent on airtime recharge or bundle purchase, the customer will be rewarded with 1 point. Transactions of value including decimal points will be rounded down or up to the nearest round (decimal-free) RWF 100 value.
6.4.3. It is in MTN discretion to reward customers with extra points at ad-hoc intervals and/or upon activating a specific paid bundle or performing a specific activity. The ad-hoc intervals, the type of the bundle or type of the specific activity and the number of extra points will be communicated to the customers in advance using daily teasers.
6.4.4. Some of the activities that may earn customer extra points are specified, but not limited to the following:
6.4.4.1. Self-purchase of Airtime or bundles using customer’s Mobile Money wallet.

6.4.4.5. The Promotion will be available in two languages: English and Kinyarwanda. To change the Promotion language, customers may send to 2325 free of charge the following keywords:

6.5. The Participant accepts that the prizes shall be received ‘as is’ and MTN does not give any guaranty or warranty on the specifications, use, utility or fitness for purpose, of the prizes and shall not be liable for any manufacturer’s obligations, directly or indirectly.
6.6. From the moment a prize is handed over to winner, the winner shall be responsible for all other associated costs.
6.7. Any withholding, income, or other taxes, charges or expenses associated with any Prizes and their collection shall be the Winner’s responsibility.
7.1. There are 2 types of prizes:
7.1.1. Telecom resources: Minutes for calling MTN numbers and Data Megabytes for internet use.
7.1.2. Cash: Money in Rwandan francs. Winners of cash prizes will be required to have an activate Mobile Money account linked to their winning MSISDN and the Mobile Money account must be registered under the winner’s national ID and/or Passport.
7.2. There will be Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Extra, and Grand prizes as described in the following table:
7.3. Daily Prizes:
7.3.1. Eligible customers are opted-in Participants who have collected at least one point on that day.
7.3.2. Each draw will determine 20 winners of cash prizes and 10,000 winners of telecom resources.
7.3.3. Each winner of daily cash prize will receive RWF 25,000 on their Mobile Money account linked his/her wining MSISDN.
7.3.4. Each winner of daily Telecom prize will receive the minutes of calls or Megabytes of data on their MTN Mobile service subscriber’s account (winning MSISDN) as follows:
7.3.4.1. 5,000 winners will get 60mins valid until midnight of the day of issue to call only MTN Lines.
7.3.4.2. 5,000 winners of 150MBs valid unit midnight of the day of the issue.
7.3.4.3. The day that a Weekly, Monthly and Grand type of prize is drawn, no Daily cash prize draw is performed.
7.4. Weekly prizes:
7.4.1. Every Friday, apart from the days that the Monthly prizes are given away, 10 weekly winners of cash are determined via a draw.
7.4.2. Eligible customers are opted-in Participants who have collected at least one point in that week. The record consists of entry sets corresponding to the total points earned by each participant from the beginning of the promotion till end of the respective “weekly prize” period (Friday 23:59:59).
7.4.3. Each draw will determine 10 winners.
7.4.4. Each winner will receive RWF 250,000 in cash on their Mobile Money account linked to his/her wining MSISDN.
7.4.5. The day that a Weekly prize draw is performed, no Daily, Monthly and Grand type of cash prize is drawn.
7.4.6. The 1 st draw of the Weekly cash prizes will be done on the 2 nd Friday following to the launch of the promo and winners will be announced on the 3rd Friday following to the launch of the promo.
7.5. Monthly prizes:
7.5.1. There will be five (5) winners of the Monthly prizes every month during the promo period.
7.5.2. There will be two (2) draws for the monthly prizes when the five (5) monthly winners of each month will be determined.
7.5.3. Eligible customers are opted-in Participants who have collected at least one point in that month.
7.5.4. The records to be considered consist of entry sets corresponding to the total points earned by each participant from the beginning of the promotion till the end of the respective “Monthly prize” period (last day 23:59:59).
7.5.5. Each draw will determine 5 winners.
7.5.6. Each winner will receive RWF 2,500,000 in cash on their Mobile Money account linked to his/her wining MSISDN.
7.5.7. The day that a Monthly prize draw is performed, no Daily, Weekly, and Grand type of cash prize is drawn.
7.6. Extra prizes:
Extra prize winners are determined on random days either via draw or instantly. Each winner will be rewarded with a cash prize of monetary value equal to RWF 25,000.
7.7. Grand Prizes:
7.7.1. The Grand Prize winners are determined at the end of the promotion period via a draw.
7.7.2. Eligible customers are opted-in Participants who have collected at least one point during the promotion period.
7.7.3. The records to be considered consist of entry sets corresponding to the total points earned by each participant from the beginning of the promotion period (first day 00:00:00) until the end of the promotion period (23:59:59).
7.7.4. The draw will determine 3 winners who will win the grand prizes as follow:
7.7.4.1. 1 winner of RWF 15,000,000 in cash on their Mobile Money account linked to his/her wining MSISDN.
7.7.4.2. 2 winners of RWF 5,000,000 cash each on their Mobile Money account linked to their wining MSISDNs.
7.7.4.3. The last week of the promotion period only the Grand cash prizes draws are performed. No Daily, Weekly, Monthly cash prizes will be performed.
7.8. Prize Rules:
7.8.1. The same subscriber’s number (MSISDN) cannot win the same type of prize more than once during the promotion period.
7.8.2. The formation of participants’ record for the whole period of the promotion will start at 00:00:01 hours on the first day of the promotion and end at 23:59:59 hours on the last day of the promotion.
7.8.3. The winner must be a Participant at the time of each draw to be eligible to participate in the respective draw. If at a later stage, following the draw in which the Participant was declared as the winner, the winner, the Participant opts-out from the campaign and becomes a non-Participant he/she is still eligible to receive his/her declared prize but does not participate in the draws performed after he/she became a non-Participant.
7.8.4. Any participant may be contacted for any or all the prize types stated above. If a customer is declared winner and is not a resident of and/or residing in Rwanda at the time of awarding the prize(s), he/she shall provide details of his/her representative who will act for and on his/her behalf for the collection of the prize. The representative must present a Letter of Authorization, a valid mean of identification (National I.D card, Driver’s License, International Passport or Certified Employment or University Student I.D Card) and/or any other information as may be required by MTN before prizes can be redeemed.
7.8.5. If the Prize is monetary, then it is not transferable, not exchangeable for another prize and cannot be sold.
7.8.6. Any expense not explicitly indicated as part of the prize, including but not limited to insurance, travel expenses, accommodation, license fees or taxes, are the responsibility of the winner. In no event shall MTN be held liable for external fluctuations that might affect the economic value of the allocated prizes.
7.8.7. Where prizes will be in cash, or cash equivalent, if MTN chooses to do so, shall withhold from the winner payment any applicable withholding tax, and act as tax agent for the relevant amounts.
7.9. Winner selection, notification, and prize forfeiture
7.9.1. A winner would be selected after the prize period throughout the period of the promotion.
7.9.2. For every prize available in the prize period, the corresponding winners are selected. Additionally, five (5) substitute winners are selected in the case that the winner cannot, for any reasons be awarded with the prize.
7.9.3. Every winner will be contacted by MTN on the mobile phone he/she used in the promotion. MTN will attempt to contact a winner at least 3 times within 24Hrs during working hours (9am to 5pm). If the winner cannot be reached via phone call within the specified time above, or in the event that they refuse the prize for whatever reason, then MTN will contact the following runner-up and award the prize to him/her and the original winner forfeits the prize.
7.9.4. Winners of the different prizes as set forth in these Terms and Conditions will only be contacted via call by MTN’s duly appointed representatives through this telephone number: 0784000000.
7.9.5. A winner will be required to provide proof of eligibility including but not limited to a National ID card, or International Passport, The customer may be required to sign a prize acceptance form (as may be requested by MTN) before prizes can be issued. In a situation where the documentation details of the winner are not the same as the ones recorded in MTN’s customers database for the winning MSISDN, the customer shall be given 14 days to rectify the mismatch and provide sufficient proof before the win is credited. Non-compliance shall lead to forfeiture.
7.9.6. Decisions made by MTN will be final and without appeal.
7.9.7. Winners agree to the use of their names and reproduction, recording and/or filming, or arrange for the taking of their photographs, reproduction, recording and/or filming of the prize(s) awarding ceremony and publication in any media, social media platforms or promotional material produced by and on behalf of MTN. Such use does not entitle the winner to any further compensation and shall remain the MTN property and shall survive termination, cancellation and/or expiry of the promotion.
7.9.8. MTN accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury, or disappointment incurred or suffered by the winner as a result of accepting the prize. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall exclude the liability of MTN for death, personal injury, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation as a result of its negligence.
8.1 Any Participant may be disqualified at any stage of the promotion, for any of the following reasons:
8.1.1 In the event that it is impossible to establish telephone communication with the prospective winner.
8.1.2 In the event, if required by MTN, that the winner does not sign the declaration of acceptance of the Prize, irrespective of the reason(s) for such.
8.1.3 In the event that the winner does not provide any proper identification document as required by these Terms and Conditions.
8.1.4 In the event that the winner, for whatever reason(s), does not accept in full and without reservation the Terms and Conditions and his/her obligations which arise from the acceptance of such regulation, in respect of the allocation of the prize.
8.1.5 In the event of incompatibility arising from the selected winner lacking legal capacity (e.g., the selected winner being related directly with MTN) as set forth in the present Terms and Conditions or as may be defined and/or stipulated within the laws of the Republic of Rwanda.
8.1.6 The failure to comply with or observe any of the Terms and Conditions set out herein.
9.1 If for any reason, a Participant decides to change his/her mobile phone number during a prize period, the accumulated points shall not be transferred to the new number but shall remain with the initial MSISDN. Entries cannot be transferred from one phone number to another.
9.2 Any deviation from the rules and/or attempt to manipulate the outcome of the promotion or the entitlement to a Prize will result in an automatic disqualification of that Participant. MTN shall be entitled to effect the disqualification without reference or recourse to the Participant(s) carrying out the said manipulation.
9.3 MTN reserves the right to with prior notification to modify, supplement or terminate all or part of this promotion at any time.
9.4 MTN reserves the right to replace the advertised prizes with prizes of the same value at their sole discretion.
9.5 The Organizer accepts no responsibility for any incorrect or incomplete registration details that Participants may supply as part of the registration for the promotion.
10.1 By participating in the promotion, the Participants expressly agree that the personal data which they supply shall be processed by MTN and/or transferred to any third party contracted by MTN to process such supplied personal data for purposes of executing the promotion and also for the purpose of publicizing the promotion and MTN. It is hereby specified that MTN guarantees that publicity, entailing the sharing with third parties of personal data supplied as a result of participation in the promotion, (including through television, the press, leaflets, and other means and formats of communication) shall be made only with respect to the winners of the Prizes and will only indicate the given names and surnames of the winners, the location of their place of residence, their images and voices (contained in photographic records, audio, video and other types of records, made with the purposes of publicity connected to the promotion).
10.2 The winning Participants give, through their participation in the promotion, express consent for the use of this data format herein defined. Following the termination of the promotion, personal data will be destroyed.
11.1 MTN reserves the right to alter, suspend or cancel this promotion and its respective Terms and Conditions, without prior notice and upon prior authorization issued by the appropriate authorities, with the new rules coming into force upon disclosure by publication on the MTN Rwanda website.
11.2 No alteration may have retrospective effects, whereby all Participants registered up to the moment of the introduction of the alteration shall have equal rights. Each alteration, including the extension or reduction of the Duration Period of the promotion, shall be included in and form an integral part of these Terms and Conditions and shall be introduced through the addition of an annex, which shall be applicable from the date of its publication on MTN Rwanda website.
11.3 No claim in respect of any alteration of the present Terms and Conditions is enforceable against MTN following the moment at which this alteration becomes available for online consultation on the MTN website.
11.4 In the event that the promotion is suspended prior to the period designated for its conclusion, MTN shall award the Prizes corresponding to the winners selected up to the date of the suspension of the promotion, in accordance with the present Terms and Conditions.
Any dispute arising from or connected to this promotion shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent Rwandan authorities and/or courts in accordance to with Rwandan Law
