MTN Rwanda has announced that it has further introduced digital solutions in its ambition to build a truly digital ecosystem. MTN Ihereze, the company’s pre-paid credit service that gives customers advance airtime
when their balance runs low, has now been upgraded to include Data borrowing. Customers can simply dial *151# to stay connected to family, friends and business associates online when their bundles deplete, and pay back instantaneously on their next airtime recharge.
The Ihereze service attracts a 15% charge on borrowed airtime. A promotional offer of 7.5%will be applied on borrowed data until June 30 th , and thereafter revert to 15% as it is for airtime loans. Repayment of Ihereze loans will be through deductions when customers tops up airtime to their main accounts either through MoMo or Virtual Top Up (VTU). Customers
can borrow multiple airtime advances at the same time up to a maximum of nine (9) advances subject to the subscriber’s eligibility. Once the oldest loan has been repaid, they are open up to borrow again.


“During these unprecedented times, we want to make it relatively easier for our customers to stay connected by making it possible to borrow data and pay on the next recharge. This speaks to our ambition of investing in digital solutions for a brighter Rwanda, while providing
superior customer experience,” said Richard Acheampong, MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer. As part of its digital drive, MTN has added various customer self-care channels such as the MTN Website Chatbot and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system accessible by dialling
200, that enables customers to get all data tips.“We want to offer our customers the simplest and quickest access to personalised mobile
offers. MTN Rwanda’s purpose is to bring the benefits of a modern connected life to all,”concluded Acheampong.


MTN recently launched ayoba, an easy to use instant messaging platform allowing MTN
subscribers to stay connected to one another for free. The platform offers global News on
COVID19, Sports, Gaming and other Entertainment, also at no cost to the users.
