MTN Rwanda has been providing 4G services based on a wholesale agreement with the KTRN, which was the only licensed 4G network provider. In October 2022, Rwanda introduced the new broadband policy, enabling MTN Rwanda to obtain a license to provide 4G services directly to its customers. This move allows MTN Rwanda to have greater control and deliver customers a more seamless, enhanced, and superior 4G experience.

The migration to MTN Rwanda’s 4G network will be seamless for our subscribers already using the 4G service. The switch to our 4G network will happen in the evening during the maintenance window with limited service disruptions. Prior notifications will be sent to all customers.

  • Your existing 4G bundles and plans with MTN Rwanda will remain valid and seamlessly transition to the new MTN 4G network. You will continue to enjoy the same benefits and features as before.
  • You will also have access to the MTN data plans (including those that were exclusively accessible on 3G) on the MTN Rwanda 4G network.

  • You don’t need to change your current 4G SIM card, and, in most cases, you will not need to get a new phone. The new 4G network will be compatible with your existing 4G-SIM card and 4G-capable phone.

There may be minimal service downtime for switchover during later hours of the migration night. Prior communication regarding the scheduled switchover or potential disruptions will be communicated.

There will be no changes in pricing or data plans for now. All your bundles will remain at the same price and offer the same resources.
