CEO's Message

Yello!

Three months of 2010 are now behind us and it has been a busy and very rewarding first quarter for MTN. We proudly launched MTN Mobile Money, established the MTN Foundation, extended our network coverage, opened service centres across Kigali, in Gisenyi and Rwamagana and best of all registered customer number 2 million on the MTN network just a mere 16 months after we celebrated achieving 1 million customers. All this achieved despite a new player coming on board in the telecoms sector. 

I want to take a moment to share with you what all these products, initiatives and achievements mean for us at MTN and for you our valued customers.

We got incredible support and wise counsel from the Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda Mr. François Kanimba and his team at BNR, I must thank them for overseeing the activation and launch of this product that is transforming the way many of the our customers are conducting their business from border to border in every town in Rwanda. We are also witnessing an increasing number of our customers registering for MTN Mobile Money and using the service to meet day to day needs for themselves and their families. We are proud to have added value to our customers and the mobile phone culture.

Through the MTN Foundation our company has committed to availing 1% of our profit after tax to support initiatives in the Health and Education Sectors as well as programs that will economically empower members of our community. From women cooperatives to young entrepreneurs, the Foundation will support initiatives that can make a positive impact on people’s lives. You may be pleased to know that the foundation is managed by a board of eminent Rwandans who have full autonomy on the dispensation of the resources.

Our network coverage investment now enables us to reach over 90% of the population with ground coverage of over 85% of the country. True to our commitment I can confidently say that everywhere you go you should have a seamless access to voice and data on the MTN network. Something that is unique to MTN.

The opening of the service centres across the country is an inevitable consequence of our network extension. It is our commitment to give every customer who walks into our service centers a memorable and pleasant experience from Kigali to Cyangugu or Gisenyi to Rwamagana, it is our commitment that through these service centres and others we intended to open in the near future our customer service agents become the measure of customer service in Rwanda.

We are humbled by the confidence the Government and the People of Rwanda have in MTN and thank you for keeping the faith with us. With over 2 million customers on our network we are challenged to continuously improve and continuously innovate to meet your every need and expectation.
