How to Activate

Registration is FREE

Go to any MTN Service Centre or authorized MTN Mobile Money Agent and upgrade your MTN

SIM card to one that is MTN Mobile Money enabled
Present an original and a photocopy of your ID or your Passport
The agent will take you through the registration process

*Note: You can register and open an account with a balance of 0 Rwf.

How to Buy

Present the following to an authorized MTN Mobile Money Agent:

Your MTN mobile number, which doubles as your MTN Mobile Money account number
The amount of money you wish to credit to your Mobile Money account
Your ID document

You will receive an SMS confirmation that your account has been credited with the amount.

How to Send

After you purchase Mobile Money through an authorized MTN Mobile Money Agent, you will receive an SMS confirmation that your account has been credited with the same amount.

To send MTN Mobile Money:

Go to ‘MTN Menu’ to go to "MTN Services"
Select ‘Send Money’, and follow the prompts

You and the recipient will receive an SMS notification with the transaction detail.

How to Withdraw Money

MTN Mobile Money can only be withdrawn from authorized MTN Mobile Money Agent, located countrywide.

A registered MTN Mobile Money recipient will have to present the agent with:

Your MTN Mobile Money account number
Your ID document
The amount you wish to withdraw

The agent will initiate the withdrawal and you will receive a message on your phone requesting you to withdraw by entering your MTN Mobile Money PIN

You and the agent will receive an SMS notification with the transaction detail.

A non-registered MTN Mobile Money recipient will have to present the agent with:

Their ID document
A token number and secret code.

They will then personally enter the secret code into the agent’s phone.

How to Buy Airtime

To buy MTN airtime for yourself or someone else:

Go to ‘MTN Menu’ to go to "MTN Services"
Select ‘Buy ’and follow the prompts

You will receive a confirmation SMS once the transaction is completed

How to Check Your Balance

To check your Mobile Money balance:

Go to ‘MTN Services’
Select ‘Mobile Money’
Select ‘My Account’
Select ‘Balance’
Enter your MTN Mobile Money PIN

A text message will be sent showing the balance.

How to Get a Mini-Statement

To receive a MTN Mobile Money Mini-Statement:

Go to ‘MTN Services’
Select ‘Mobile Money’
Select ‘My Account’
Select ‘Mini-Statement’
Enter your MTN Mobile Money PIN

A text message will be sent showing the last five transactions.

How to Add a "Favorite"

You can add numbers that you will frequently make payments to.

Go to ‘MTN Services’
Select ‘Mobile Money’
Select ‘My Account’
Select ‘Add Favourite’
Select ‘Mobile Number’ and follow the prompts

How to Delete a "Favorite"

To delete favorites previously stored

Select ‘Mobile Money’ then ‘Find’ to display existing list of names and follow the prompts

After successful deletion of the short name, you will receive a text confirmation message

How to Change a PIN Number

You can change your MTN Mobile Money PIN at any time:

Go to ‘Mobile Money’ menu
Select ‘My Security’
Select ‘Change MTN Mobile Money PIN’ menu and follow the prompts

After successful change of the MTN Mobile Money PIN, you will receive an SMS confirming the change.

What is the Cost

Your MTN Mobile Money account is free of charge. The system will automatically deduct transaction charges from your account after each transaction.
