Home and Away
Home and Away is a new service from MTN Rwanda that allows all subscribers to use their Rwandan phone number and the same tariffs when traveling in the East African Community- Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya.
How to Get It
When you reach any of the destinations in the East African Community, simply switch on your mobile and within a few minutes you will receive a message from Vodacom Tanzania, MTN Uganda, or Safaricom depending on where you are.
This message will let you know that you are able to use one of the above mentioned networks the same way that you would use MTN Rwanda.
How to Use
You might be in Tanzania, Uganda or Kenya, but your phone behaves as if it has stayed in Rwanda. Continue to call Rwandan numbers directly without the country code, but for Tanzanian, Ugandan or Kenyan numbers, you must include the country codes (+255 for Tanzania, +256 for Uganda and +254 for Kenya).
What is the Cost
Calls and SMS to and from Rwanda will be charged at the usual local rate.
Calls to any of the other partner networks (that is; Vodacom Tanzania, MTN Uganda and Safaricom Kenya) networks will be charged at a discount regional rate.
Calls to any of the other existing networks will be charged at MTN Rwanda’s East Africa rates.
You can purchase normal MTN Rwanda airtime recharge vouchers from selected MTN Uganda, Vodacom and Safaricom outlets.
