MTN Rwanda Cancels Service Fee on Me2U Product

MTN Rwanda has canceled the 10% service fee recently imposed on its Me2U product, effective 17th September 2017.

MTN recently revamped its Airtime Me2U Services by increasing the daily Me2U limit and offering more flexibility to transfer airtime from 100Rwf up to 20,000Rwf, as well as added a service fee of 10% to be applied to each amount transferred.

Me2U is a service exclusively for MTN Pre-paid users. It is an easy and convenient way to directly share airtime from one’s account with other MTN Pre-paid users. To use the service, customers simply have to dial *772# and follow the prompts.

Speaking on the revamp of the service, MTN’s Acting Chief Marketing Officer, Gaspard Bayigane said, “The revamp of the Me2U service was in response to our customers’ needs to have the ability to transfer a higher amount of airtime to their friends and families. Our previous limit was set at 6,000Rwf and now goes up to 20,000Rwf.

With regards to the new service fee and why the decision to have it was reversed, he added, “In order to recover the investments associated with maintaining the Me2U service and align with industry practices to charge for airtime transfers, we introduced a 10% service fee. However, in the spirit of putting our customers first, we are now happy to be the only ones offering this service free of charge as it became clear to us that this move was negatively impacting our customers.”

Me2U has greatly benefited MTN customers as they are able to share their airtime at any time and empower the people important to them to stay connected when they need it.
