MTN launches Internet Me2U, a P2P data sharing solution in partnership with U2opia Mobile
Kigali – MTN Rwanda, the leading telecommunications provider has launched a first-of-its-kind service in Rwanda with “MTN Internet Me2U”, a peer-to-peer (P2P) data sharing solution in partnership with U2opia Mobile with an aim to raise internet penetration and make internet easily accessible for its subscriber base. MTN Internet Me2U is powered by Fonepass, U2opia mobile’s sponsored data platform, and it allows all prepaid users to share data MBs between friends and family on the network.
MTN Internet Me2U allows data to be shared between two users, by triggering the USSD short code *825*10#. This innovative data sharing service allows MTN subscribers to ask a friend or family member for data when her/she is low on mobile data or zero data balance. To check the available balance of MB’s that have been gifted, the recipient can dial *825*11#.
Commenting about the new service, MTN’s Senior Manager of Marketing Operations, Gaspard Bayigane said, “With Internet access and smartphones now becoming more accessible in the market, consumers are increasingly staying connected on mobile data. MTN is proud to introduce yet another first with MTN Internet Me2U that puts internet access within the reach of all our data subscribers. We are sure our partnership with U2oipia mobile and a solution like Me2u will help users with uninterrupted data access while they enjoy the benefits of mobile data.”
Commenting about the launch, Sumesh Menon, Co-founder, U2opia Mobile said “U2opia Mobile is at the center of mobile data revolution and we aim to launch technology that drives connectivity for every mobile user. With Internet and smartphones now becoming more accessible across the globe, data is now a necessity and people are growing used to staying connected. We, at U2opia Mobile, are excited to partner with MTN to launch MTN Internet Me2U, the P2P data sharing solution for their subscribers, as the solution brings flexibility to manage data plans and also makes data easier to reach and use.”
Bayigane added that the major objective of MTN Internet Me2U is to make the data sharing process seamless & quick.
“The increasing uptake of data-enabled devices guarantees that more people will need to keep purchasing internet packs and MTN Internet Me2U will help eliminate barriers to accessing data.”
The amount of MBs that a user can send to someone is from as low as 5MB up to 20GB. Customers can now enjoy and share their favourite and affordable data bundles from MTN.
