MTN Rwanda and Societe Petroliere Limited (SP Limited) officially unveiled their new partnership today that allows customers to pay for fuel at any of the 25 SP petrol stations across the country, using MTN Mobile Money.
This new technological innovation aims to improve MTN’s customer experience by offering fuel customers (motorists, and others) the ease and convenience of paying for fuel directly through their mobile devices. Not only will this service bring convenience in the purchasing process for the customers, but there will be no extra cost incurred by customers such as transaction fees.
“This service will definitely improve customer experiences for both MTN and SP customers. We believe that the integration with SP Limited will increase our efficiency and add value to our customers’ lives as everyone that owns a phone, no matter how basic or otherwise, will able to make safe and secure Mobile Money transactions,” said MTN Business General Manager, Mr Norman Munyampundu.
As a way of giving back to customers, motorists and other fuel customers that pay for fuel at any SP station using MTN Mobile Money will be rewarded with a 10Rwf discount on every litre bought. This promotion will last for duration of one month (from 16 July 2015 to 15 August 2015).
“The fuel payment through Mobile Money system will reduce the cash risk management and will contribute to the increase of SP Limited services at all its petrol service stations located across the country “said SP Limited Managing Director, Mr Claudien Habimana.
To benefit from this service, one needs to be an MTN Mobile Money registered customer. Customers will receive an SMS asking them to approve the pending payment initiated by the fuel pump attendant. They will dial *182# – My Account – Pending Approvals – and approve the payment by entering their Mobile Money PIN number where the amount will be deducted from their Mobile Money Account.
“MTN Rwanda continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing both personal and business customers with the best services in the market,” Munyampundu stated.
MTN Mobile Money payments are becoming popular in Rwanda with customers now being able to access various services on the platform such as buying electricity, paying water bills, paying school fees, making TV payments, pulling and pushing money instantly from bank accounts, buying airtime and sending money. This reliable, convenient and safe payment method is expected to drive a higher penetration of cashless transactions greatly contributing to the economic transformation of Rwanda.
