MTN Rwanda staff conclude 2015 21 Days of Y’ello Care Community Projects

MTN Rwanda rounded off its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care employee volunteer programme this past weekend, which saw employees volunteer their time, skills and resources to make a difference in the community under the theme of “Investing in Education for All”, and in line with MTN's vision 'to lead the delivery of a bold, new Digital World to customers'.

Addressing a significant need in eight rural schools, MTN Rwanda partnered with Mobisol on an electrification programme, providing the schools with customised 600W Solar Systems. The systems will provide off-grid lighting solutions for educational purposes, including training and educating students about sustainability and renewable energies. Schools that benefitted from these solar installations included Ecole Secondaire Gasange in Gatsibo, Groupe Scolaire Kibara in Ngoma, Groupe Scolaire Ntwali in Kamonyi, Groupe Scolaire Bufunda in Nyagatare, Groupe Scolaire Bumba in Gakenke, Groupe Scolaire Kamashi in Ngororero, Groupe Scolaire Nyamugali in Nyamasheke and Groupe Scolaire Nkakwa in Nyaruguru.

MTN staff also used this Y’ello Care initiative to install digital books in Nyamata High School in Bugesera, St Mary’s in Karongi, Stella Matutina in Rulindo and Groupe Scolaire Espagna in Nyanza. They further collaborated with the Rwanda Ministry of Education and Rwanda Education Board to conduct a teacher training programme on the new national education curriculum and ICT skills knowledge in Rwamagana, Kigali and Muhanga.
