MTN Rwanda announces appointment of new Chief Executive Officer
Kigali – MTN is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Gunter Engling as CEO of MTN Rwanda, replacing Mr Ebenezer Asante who moves to take over MTN’s key operation in Ghana as CEO, effective July 2015.
A model leader, Gunter joins MTN Group where he was Executive for Group Finance. He has been with MTN for almost 12 years, having joined MTN Group in November 2003 as Senior Manager for Group Management Accounting. He subsequently moved to MTN Nigeria in 2007 as General Manager: Finance Planning. In August 2009, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer at MTN Ghana. In August 2012, he assumed the role of Head: Passive Infrastructure Management in MTN Group, where he managed the transition of MTN Cameroon and MTN Ivory Coast to the Towerco model.
Gunter has substantial financial and audit management experience in the Telecommunications, Media and Entertainment, and Technology industries. Before moving to MTN, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), gaining experience in Amsterdam, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. He holds an Honours Degree in Accounting from the University of Stellenbosch and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

After almost two successful years as MTN Rwanda CEO and many years of Executive and Managerial experience, Mr Ebenezer Asante returns to Ghana as the first Ghanaian CEO of MTN Ghana. MTN is the leading telecommunication company in Ghana with over 14 million subscribers.
On his part, Ebenezer gave praise to his MTN Rwanda team, for the rapid turnaround success achieved during his era to transform the business and put it on a stronger competitive growth pedestal.
