MTN Rwanda joined the residents of Nduba Sector, Gatunga (Nyacyonga) Cell, in Gasabo District during the monthly community work on Saturday.
MTN staff and franchisees rehabilitated anti-erosion ditches in Gatunga cell to keep soil healthy and offer a place for plants and trees to thrive, and rebuilt the existing land terraces.
MTN Chief Executive Officer, Ebenezer Asante, who took part in the community work, welcomed the opportunity to work with Gatunga residents to assist with sustainable land management in that area.
“By working together we ensure the greatest possible outcomes for the environment are delivered.”
MTN’s sustainability vision is about protecting and creating economic value for MTN and its stakeholders through responsible environmental and social core business practices.
“By supporting the global need for valuing the environment through the careful use of resources, we hope to improve our own resilience and reduce our impact on the environment,” continued Asante.
MTN Franchisee partner, CitiCom also donated 100,000Rwf to restore the dilapidated sports ground in Gatunga.
“We’re glad that the community will be able to resume their sports programmes. This will also give the children a change to develop their capabilities,” said the Secretary of Gatunga Cell, Antoinette Yankurije.
MTN officials also requested the locals to help safeguard the MTN infrastructure such as the antennas in that area from vandalism and theft.
