MTN Rwanda hands over 2,500,000Rwf to Rubavu cooperative
In recognition of Rwandan Women, MTN Rwanda today handed over 2,500,000Rwf to Cooperative Tuzamurane Kanama (KOTUKA) in Rubavu as part of its Women’s Month celebrations.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, MTN’s Human Resource General Manager, Mary Asiimwe said that the growth of women's power and the sustainability of development are naturally united.
“Women have great potential to create and implement solutions to their community problems. By working together, women can be such a force for positive change. We need to work to support each other and lift each other up.”
Cooperative Tuzamurane Kanama provides disabled women with the skills to enter the socioeconomic sphere and increase household incomes.
“Thanks to MTN’s support we will be able to expand the scope of our cooperative and make a noticeable difference in the lives of not only the women themselves, but also their children and families,” said Nzabanzimana Jean d’Amour, President of Cooperative Kotuka.
Representing the mayor of Rubavu was the Executive of Kanama Sector, Sebikari Jean, who thanked MTN for their continued efforts at uplifting and empowering Rwandan communities.
“Empowerment is not just about providing financing or training to women. It is about helping them to change social structures that hold back their potential and their capacity to transform their societies.”
“We thank MTN for their generous donation and offer our heartfelt appreciation for their commitment to assisting the disabled. I believe this donation will serve as an inspiration to other donors,” said Jeanette Muhire Kagaba, Coordinator for the Disabled in the District of Rubavu.
All around the world, International Women's Day represents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality. Through its leadership position, MTN Rwanda supports local empowerment and job creation by employing and supporting over 80,000 people both directly and indirectly. A large number of these individuals are women that partner with the company through its Distribution Network, Mobile Money Service and MTN Business partnerships.
